As Converse has grown, so has its Fire Department. The Converse Fire Department has grown from an all volunteer staff to a staff of 30 paid firefighters who are certified as both firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The department also employs four administrative personnel. Together, the staff maintain equipment, complete fire and health inspections, encourage public relations / fire prevention, and make fire and EMS calls.
Converse is one of the busiest departments in Bexar County and responds to more than 3,000 calls for fire and EMS services a year. The department runs:
One aerial truck
One command vehicle
One communications trailer
One Trench Rescue trailer
One rescue truck with a cascade unit and the jaws of life
Two brush trucks
Three Class A pumpers
Three medical intensive care unit ambulances
In early 2015, the Converse Fire Department took delivery of a two 2015 Dodge/Frazer Ambulances. The units feature a 14' patient care compartment, all LED lighting and room to carry all the necessary bunker gear for the crew including SCBA.
