Responsibilities
As Converse has grown, so has its Fire Department. The Converse Fire Department has grown from an all volunteer staff to a staff of 36 paid firefighters who are certified as both firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The department also employs four administrative personnel. Together, the staff maintain equipment, complete fire and health inspections, encourage public relations / fire prevention, and make fire and EMS calls.
Apparatus
Converse is one of the busiest departments in Bexar County and responds to more than 4,500 calls for fire and EMS services a year. The department runs:
- One aerial truck
- Two command vehicles
- Two brush trucks
- Three Class A pumpers
- Three medical intensive care unit ambulances
Latest Addition
In 2020, the Converse Fire Department took delivery of three (3) brand new Infectious Disease Response Unit Frazer Ambulances out of Houston, Texas. The Ambulances are rated as Mobile Intensive Care Unit capable, and staffed with state-or-the-art medical supplies, resources and capabilities.
