Household Hazardous Wastes

Home Pick-Up Program Steps

Residents of Bexar County's suburban cities and unincorporated areas are eligible for free home pick-up of household hazardous wastes (HHWs). If you live in the eligible area, follow these steps for services.  Please click Hazardous Waste Materials to view flyer for information.

Request a Collection

When you call the Haz Mat collection hotline at 800-449-7587, you will be asked several questions, including your address and the type and amount of materials available for collection.

Schedule a Collection Date

The collection hotline operator will fully explain the program, schedule a convenient collection date, and discuss where the collection kit should be safely placed outside for collection. Please tell the operator if you are a senior citizen or a disabled resident and require assistance in gathering your materials.

Prepare for Collection

You will receive a collection kit, which includes a program instruction sheet with a hotline telephone number to call for questions, as well as other items to help pack and secure your HHWs. All materials, such as gasoline, poisons, pesticides, and aerosols, must be placed into the kit. If you have more waste than will fit in the kit, please call the hotline to discuss your options.

Collection

On the scheduled date, the contractor's customer service representative will collect eligible materials directly from your home. They will sort and pack the materials for proper disposal. Participants will receive a postage-paid survey card to be completed and mailed to the county to help track the program.
