Converse Citizen's Police Academy

Program Topics
The Converse Citizen's Police Academy is a 12-week course designed for the general public to become familiar with their local police department and its day-to-day operations. Classes are specifically designed to educate the public on the type of jobs we do and how / why we do them. This course covers:

  • Abuse and violence
  • Crime prevention
  • Criminal investigations
  • Dispatch operations
  • Driving while intoxicated (DWI) and accidents
  • Fingerprinting
  • Firearms training / concealed handguns
  • Hostage negotiation / special weapons and tactics
  • K-9 / narcotics
  • Patrol procedures
  • Traffic stops
  • Use of force


Please note: This course does not certify you to become a police officer. This is strictly to get the general public involved in the community.


Class Times, Days & Locations
Classes typically begin in February and are held for 15 weeks on Thursdays from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. You must complete an application here or contact Cpl. Steinberg at psteinberg@conversepd.com and submit to a background check prior to acceptance. Graduation is dependent on attendance. Applications are available at the Converse Police Department:
