How do I get my "Power Up Your Mind!" library card?
To apply for a library card visit the library with a picture I.D. and proof of residency, such as a utility bill or insurance card, and fill out an application.  Library cards are free to residents of Converse (78109). If you live outside of Converse City limits, you may purchase an annual membership for $20.00.

Books, Movies, and More . . .
Your library card gives you access to mystery thrillers, young adult fiction, manga, graphic novels, children's books, westerns, horror; non-fiction books about health, personal growth, finances, science, and math; DVD movies with super-heroes and super-villains and much more.  Let us know what you are reading and what you would like to see on our shelves.

Story Time
The Converse Public Library holds a Story Time every Wednesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am for young children up to pre-kindergarten age throughout the school year. It features stories, music, and a crafting session designed to activate whole-brain development.  See our calendar for details. Throughout the year, the library also hosts special events.

Summer Reading
The Summer Reading Program was a success!  A big thank you goes out to Magik Theatre, Bricks Academy, UTSA Biology Outreach Program, Jody Robbins, and Red the Clown and Friends for coming out!  The children had a blast!  Parents don't forget to turn in your child's reading logs by August 30 to claim their prize books! Next year's theme hint- think of Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman :)  Calling all Super Heroes!

In 1988, the Converse Lions Club developed the idea for a community library and presented the resolution to the City Council. Upon the passage of this resolution, the Lions Club, Converse Grange, and a host of volunteers combined their efforts to make the library a reality. On September 1, 1991, the Converse Area Public Library opened its doors and was accredited by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in 1993. The library is now known as the Converse Public Library.

The Converse Library currently holds approximately 24,000 material items (books, videos, audiobooks, etc.) available for checkout with a library card.

New resources!  Mango Languages and Overdrive e-books are available!  Go to our Online Catalog click on the links and start exploring today!

We want your newly read books!
The library is happy to accept donations of new or high quality used books and DVDs to add to its collection.  We do not accept textbooks, well-worn books, or books that do not have the latest, up-to-date information.  The fresher the better!

Friend's Group
The Converse Public Library is looking to start a Friend's Group, a non-profit organization whose mission is to co-create the library's vision and goals and help sustain it's overall health and service to the community.  If you are interested in participating in a Friend's Group please contact the library.
