April 14, 2007 was a long awaited and exciting time for the City of Converse.  The City Council and the Economic Development Corporation worked hand-in-hand with the development team that consisted of Michael Berlanga, Resolutions Now; Michael Hogan, The Hogan Real Estate Services; Jim Plummer, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP; and Larry Newell, Gonzalez-Newell Bender, Inc. to break ground on Converse Town Square.

The first phase of the public/private project is the construction of a 252-unit residential apartment complex, composed of 10 three-story buildings on 9.5 acres.

The second phase, located on the remaining 10 acres, will consist of 160,000 square feet of retail and office space.

“YANTIS AUTOMOTIVE GRAND OPENING !!!!!!!!!!!!”

Randolph Metrocom Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the New Yantis Automotive located at 8718 Business Circle in the Converse Business Park. Ceremonial guests included: Mayor Al Suarez, Mayor Pro-Tem Scott Jauregui, Councilwoman Gloria Weers, Economic Development Corporation Chairman Dr. Reginal Harris, Director Mark Luft, and Board of Director Howie Marbach, Webmaster Richard Weers, Randolph Metrocom Chamber of Commerce – John Williams, Pat O’Brien, Ray Thomas, and former City Councilman Jim Evans. Yantis Automotive relocated after 23 years from their original site at FM 1604.

“CITY OF CONVERSE WELCOMES NEW WENDY’S RESTAURANT”

(October 23, 2007)

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the New Converse Wendy’s Restaurant located on FM 78. Ceremonial guests included State Representative District 118 Joe Farias, Mayor Al Suarez, Councilwoman Gloria Weers, EDC Chairman Dr. Reginal Harris, EDC Director Mark Luft, EDC Board of Directors Dr. Jerry Riley & Howie Marbach, Wendy’s Corporate Office Executives John Schall & Divisional Vice President Derrick Garcia. EDC Director Mark Luft presented Wendy’s with a $3,000 grant for infrastructure upgrades. Wendy’s Restaurant presented Boysville with a $500 donation gift. Wendy’s Restaurant is scheduled to open for business on Wednesday October 24th.

“Converse Business Expo 2007”
( September 10-11, 2007)
The Converse Economic Development Corporation hosted their first Business Expo. The purpose of the Expo was to facilitate new and existing business owners to meet with franchisors, city government, Land developers, SBA, SBDC, South Texas Business Fund and other lending institutions to explore $158 million new retail sales and expenditure potential through commercial opportunities. Prospective new Business owners & developers met with city leaders and discussed new commercial ventures. Over 25 Companies participated in this Expo along with many new prospective owners. Special thanks to Boysville for the use of their facilities to make this Expo an overall success.
